The King’s Award for Voluntary Service presented to The Sunshine Group.

The Lord-Lieutenant presented The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) to The Sunshine Group at the Marriott Hotel in Liverpool today, 19th February 2025.

This group offers an array of services and resources to ease the lives of people suffering with breast cancer. The group raises funds for practical things such as bespoke bags for surgical drains and prosthetic samples. However, they also provide therapeutic treatments such as massages, sewing groups to aid transition, and have fitted out waiting rooms and diagnosis rooms within the hospitals so that they are more comfortable and less clinical, and so much more, more than can be listed here.

It was an honour to meet this amazing group of people, the volunteers, the Trustees, the planners, their sponsors, the therapists and nurses. Many congratulations to all of you for your very well-deserved award.

Thanks to the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Richard Kemp CBE, Madam Mayor of Sefton, Cllr June Burns for attending today’s ceremony to lend their support to the group. Also in attendance were the Vice Lord-Lieutenant Dr. Ruth Hussey CB OBE, Deputy Lieutenant Paige Earlam, Deputy Lieutenant Natalie Reeves Billing both of whom undertook the local assessment, and Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Mark Underhill OBE.
