On 22nd November 2024 the Lord-Lieutenant presented The King’s Award for Enterprise (International Trade) to JJ Smith & Company, another great company based in Knowsley, Merseyside.
JJ Smith & Company is a fourth-generation family business founded by four brothers in 1923 which has been at the forefront of engineering for over 100 years. During that time it has continually adapted to the needs of the woodworking industry and is keen that manufacturing in the 21st Century is a thriving industry.
The company supplies machinery to a wide variety of businesses, including offsite construction, shed and garden building manufacturers, door, staircase and window specialists, prisons and local colleges.
JJ Smith’s core values of never standing still, looking out for its people, acting with integrity and taking the long-term view are central to everything it does and has kept the Company doing the right thing over the past century.
The Lord-Lieutenant is pictured here presenting the KAE to Dr. Rachel Baker, Managing Director, the High Sheriff of Merseyside, Professor John Mohin OBE DL, Lesley Martin-Wright JP DL, the Mayor and Mayoress of Knowsley, Cllr Ken McGlashan and Ms Anne McGlashan, the Leader of Knowsley Council, Cllr Graham Morgan, the Chief Executive of Knowsley Council, Mr. Mike Harden and the Member for Knowsley, the Rt. Hon. Anneliese Midgley MP.
Also pictured is the entire team of JJ Smith & Co, some of whom have been with the company for forty years, and some of the earlier generations of the family. As a small business, it is able to provide customers with a personal service from its sales team through to its highly trained engineers, offering the most technically suitable and cost-effective machining solutions to meet production requirements, as well as providing technical support, servicing and aftercare. Well done to all concerned, this award is truly well deserved!
