Operation Frankton Memorial Service

Liam Hanlon DL attended the Special Boat Service Association Operation Frankton Memorial Service on Sunday 10th December at the Operation Frankton Memorial at Woodside Promenade. Pictured is the Mayor of Wirral Cllr Jerry Williams, and the Lady Mayoress Mrs. Williams, the Commanding Officer of the Royal Marines Reserve Merseyside, Lt. Col. William Clarke RM, with standard bearers and members of the Special Boat Service Association, Royal Marines Association and Royal Naval Association.

Operation Frankton was a daring raid by Royal Marines in the Second World War, using kayaks to paddle into Bordeaux Harbour. The Royal Marines involved are also known as the Cockleshell Heroes.
