Operation Frankton Memorial

On 8th December the Lord-Lieutenant attended the Operation Frankton memorial service in Birkenhead with Mr. Liam Hanlon DL and the Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Cllr Cherry Povall and Mrs. Sheila Clarke.

Operation Frankton was a commando raid on ships in the German occupied French port of Bordeaux in southwest France during World War II. The raid was carried out by a small unit of Royal Marines known as the Royal Marines Boom Patrol Detachment. The operation is often referred to as The Cockleshell Heroes.

Les we forget.
