Merseyside Domestic Violence Service presented with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service

On Friday 14th March 2025 the Lord-Lieutenant presented The King’s Award for Voluntary Service to Merseyside Domestic Violence Service at the Adelphi Hotel.

This group, which formed in 2003 with six volunteers and got off the ground with a donation of £1,000 now has secured major funding from the Lottery Funding Programme and has supported 68 referred victims in just the last six months through their intensive support and training programmes.

As well as offering emotional support during what can be a long process for victims leaving dangerous home situations, they also help users to resell, find alternative housing and navigate and access the necessary support to protect themselves and their dependants from harmful situations.

Importantly, they also work with perpetrators under the Males After Seeking Change (MASC) training programme and liaises with the Courts whenever possible to encourage perpetrators to deal with their behaviours, leading the way towards change.

An incredible group, and a very well deserved award. Many congratulations to all involved, particularly the group’s founder Jacqui Nash.

Thanks to the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Richard Kemp CBE and Lady Mayoress, Alderwoman Erica Kemp CBE for attending in support. Thanks also to Deputy Lieutenants Paige Earlam and Natalie Reeves Billing for undertaking the local assessment and participating in the evening’s presentation.
