Liam Hanlon joined Les Forshaw Painting & Decorating in 1995 as a self-employed joiner whilst funding his full-time university education at The University of Chester where he gained a BSc (Hons) in combined Science, Sport Science and Biology. He is now joint Managing Director of The Forshaw Group, following a management buyout in 2013. The Forshaw Group is committed to all aspects of environment and sustainability, diversity and inclusion, training and development, digital and automation and the health and wellbeing of its staff.
Liam has had a lifelong enjoyment in sport participation, representing his club, county and region in swimming, boxing and skiing. He was awarded full University Colours for Boxing, voted Student Union Sports Person of the Year and winner of the Sport Science and Physical Education Academic Achievement Award. He is a BCU qualified canoeist, BSAC qualified Dive Leader, an ASSI ski-instructor and coach with Snowsport England and BASI.
Liam, with a group of family and friends, formed Tri-4-life in 2000 in “Remembrance and Friendship” with a common interest in the sport of triathlon and the aim of raising funds and having fun with the many challenges life has to offer. The Tri-4-life team has completed several major international Community, Charity and Fundraising events including the Tri-4-life European Challenge 2006, Tri-4-life USA 2012, Tri-4-life A2A 2013, Tri-4-life Great Britain and Ireland 2014, Tri-4-life BIG seven swim Extreme 2105, Tri-4-life Spitfire Heart Losotho 2016, Tri-4-life Cycles for the Caribbean BVI 2018, Tri-4-life Great Glen Swim 2020, Tri-4-life Baruntse 2021 and on 12th May 2022 the Tri-4-life team successfully summitted Mount Everest as part of the Tri-4-life Mount Everest Centenary Challenge 2022.
Liam continues to inspire young people with his commitment to youth development and training via the Forshaw Group and the Knowsley Schools Apprenticeship Partnership with All Saints School and the INS-Pire National Academy. The Forshaw Group’s Leadership and Management programmes engage with Liverpool John Moores University and Edge Hill University. All of this is supported by their collaboration with the Armed Forces Covenant, engagement with the Military Preparation Academy, the Volunteer Reserve Services and events with the Royal Marines Association and the Special Boat Service Association. They are participating in a new initiative with HM Prison and Probation Service, providing support and opportunities for new skill development of the “Jobs on Release” programme.
