Julie Lawson BEM DL visits The Frances Centre Aintree Hospital

On 17th December 2024 Julie Lawson BEM DL visited the Frances Centre in Aintree Hospital. This is a new room with a garden that has been funded by Professor Sarkar whose wife Frances died of dementia in 2021.

They had a Christmas party with entertainment for some of the people who are currently in the dementia unit.

The Centre aims to undertake more hands-on work with the patients to encourage them to join in activities, which in turn, reduces aggression, rather than over medicate.

In the summer they will be able to join in with gardening, planting, sowing seeds, and other outdoor activities.

Professor Sarkar, fondly referred to as “Prof” by all the team, has kindly donated plants and shrubs from his own garden.

Julie said, “Today we sang and danced with the patients. It was lovely to see the interaction. They were delighted when Fergus, the therapy dog, came to join the party. He even had his own lanyard and badge!”

The Professor has donated another £100k for a second Frances centre in Broadgreen Hospital.
