Ainsdale Civic Society receives The King’s Award for Voluntary Service

The Ainsdale Civic Society brings all parts of the community together. With its aims to improve the environment, promote community activity and benefit Ainsdale, the members received their very well deserved King’s Award for Voluntary Service on 19th March 2025 in the beautiful surroundings of the Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

The Officers of Ainsdale Civic Society, Chairman Tony Brough, Hon Secretary Joan Major, and Hon Treasurer John Dempsey, along with the members of the Committee and all of the many volunteers work hard on a number of projects to encourage the wider village population to care for the environment of Ainsdale, celebrating its heritage, (it is a Domesday settlement).

The railway station on the commuter line to Liverpool is a central feature of the village and together with Merseyrail and Network Rail, the Society takes every opportunity to enhance the related environment. The Society organises an Open Gardens weekend each year and the village remembrance service in November. It raised £70,000 for last year’s village Christmas Lights and has created “Happy to Chat” spaces where people are encouraged to stop, sit on the street furniture and converse, going a long way to counter feelings of isolation and loneliness.

These are just a few of the many activities undertaken by the Ainsdale Civic Society, and their KAVS is well deserved.

Many thanks to the Leader of Sefton Council, Cllr Marion Atkinson and CEO Phil Porter for attending the ceremony to show their support. Thanks also to Col. Martin Amlot OBE OStJ DL and Mrs. Abi Pointing MBE DL for undertaking the assessment for the award. Unfortunately Abi was unable attend the ceremony and thanks go to Mr. Mike Braham DL for stepping in.
