Recently the Lord-Lieutenant attended one of the evening events celebrating Navratri organised by the ladies of ANKUR in the Merseyside Hindu Community. The festival celebrates the victory of Good over Evil and is a gloriously colourful and joyful festival.
The event was held in Cardinal Heenan High School in Green Lane, as ANKUR needs a venue large enough to host the dancing.
On a dark night in chilly Liverpool it was truly a delight to be in a little part of India and see the beautiful shrine.
The Merseyside Hindu community has a long history, with the first Hindu Temple being formed in 1957 in Botanic Road before moving to Edge Lane.
The Lord-Lieutenant has a deep conviction of trying to bring all faiths together, to understand each other’s cultures, appreciate our similarities and respect our differences and am working with all groups at current Interfaith events.
This evening with ANKUR was an absolute delight and the invitation was extremely welcome. Thanks to all involved!
